‘La Bohème’ at The Metropolitan Opera
This fall, tenor Stephen Costello returns to The Metropolitan Opera stage to sing as Rodolfo in Franco Zeffirelli’s iconic staging of Puccini’s La Bohème.
The performances mark a swift return to the role, following Costello’s acclaimed run during the 2024–25 season. Widely celebrated for his detailed phrasing and emotional vulnerability, Costello has earned consistent critical acclaim for his portrayal, with the New York Classical Review praising his ability to deliver Puccini’s soaring lines with “exceptional elasticity and emotion.”
Costello joins the season’s opening cast, singing opposite Armenian soprano Juliana Grigoryan as Mimì. The cast also includes soprano Rosa Feola as Musetta, baritone Hansung Yoo as Marcello, baritone Gihoon Kim as Schaunard, and bass-baritone Le Bu as Colline, with veteran baritone Donald Maxwell portraying both Benoît and Alcindoro. Conductor Ramón Tebar leads The Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and Chorus.
