‘Madama Butterfly’ in Geneva
This April and May, Stephen Costello returns to the role of B.F. Pinkerton, joining the Grand Théâtre de Genève in Puccini’s beloved tragedy, Madama Butterfly. Costello originally made his role debut at Tokyo’s New National Theatre, and has also sung this iconic tenor role at Santa Fe Opera. He joins an all-star cast in Geneva, under the baton of Antonino Fogliani.
Corrine Winters sings the title role, with Andrey Zhilikhovsky as Sharpless, Kai Rüütel-Pajula as Suzuki, Denzil Delaere as Goro, Mark Kurmanbayev as Lo zio Bonzo, Charlotte Bozzi as Kate Pinkerton, and Vladimir Kazakov as Yamadori.
With a focus both on Cio-Cio-San and her son, Barbora Horáková’s production takes an intergenerational point of view of the story, incorporating video by photographer and filmmaker Diana Markosian.
Costello sings Pinkerton April 23, 25, 26, 28, 30, and May 2 and 3.
