‘Madama Butterfly’ with Santa Fe Opera
Stephen Costello returns to Santa Fe Opera as B.F. Pinkerton in Puccini’s beloved tragedy, Madama Butterfly, playing July 3 through August 29. Costello most recently performed this signature role at the Grand Théâtre de Genève, where he portrayal was praised by Opera Diary, who summed up his performance saying, “Strong presence, elegant singing, and a believable American officer on stage.” Classique News has also praised his portrayal, saying he “successfully portrays a seductive Pinkerton, making it completely believable that the young Cio-Cio-San would fall so deeply in love with him.”
He is joined by a powerful international cast, including Karen Chia-ling Ho in the title role, Sun-Ly Pierce as Suzuki, Jarrett Ott as Sharpless, and Ya-Chung Huang as Gorothe, under the baton of John Fiore. Madama Butterfly will be led by Melanie Bacaling, who directs the original production by Lee Blakeley.
