Role Debut in ‘Don Carlo’ at Bayerische Staatsoper
On September 25, 28 and October 2, Stephen Costello will make a thrilling debut in the titular role of Giuseppe Verdi’s Don Carlo at the Bayerische Staatsoper. Well known for his interpretations of the Verdi tenor leads, he has been seen as Alfredo (La traviata) and the Duke of Mantua (Rigoletto) in several of the world’s leading houses including The Metropolitan Opera, Arena di Verona, San Francisco Opera and the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.
The stellar cast will also include Dmitry Belosselskiy as Filippo II, Igor Golovatenko as Rodrigo, Ana Maria Martinez as Elisabeth of Valois, Rafał Siwek as the Grand Inquisitor and Clémentine Margaine as Princess Eboli. Andrea Battistoni conducts Jürgen Rose’s intelligent production which premiered at the Nationaltheater in 2000.
