‘Roméo et Juliette’ in Zürich

Stephen Costello will begin 2025 at Opernhaus Zürich, starring as Roméo in Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette. Ted Huffman’s production reimagines the opera on a simple dance floor, where the waltz represents a society entrenched in outdated values, creating the backdrop for the young lovers’ struggle for freedom.

Mr. Costello returns to Zürich following his acclaimed performance as Roberto Devereux, and he is joined by soprano Julie Fuchs, who reprises her role as Juliette. The cast also includes Nicolas Testé as Frère Laurent, Chao Deng as Count Capulet, Gregory Feldmann as Mercutio, Svetlina Stoyanova as Stéphano, Omer Kobiljak as Tybalt, Irène Friedli as Gertrude, Valeriy Murga as the Duke, Steffan Lloyd Owen as Paris, Samson Setu as Gregorio, and Maximilian Lawrie as Benvolio. Timur Zangiev will conduct the performances.

Performance dates are December 31, January 3, 8, 11, 17, and 26.
