‘Un ballo in maschera’ at the Edinburgh International Festival
Praised for his “lean, elegant tone” (New York Classical Review), tenor Stephen Costello returns to Opernhaus Zürich as Riccardo in Verdi’s Un ballo in maschera, as part of the Edinburgh International Festival.
He previously made his role debut as Riccardo with the Opernhaus this past May. He has previously delighted audiences in Zürich as Roméo in Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette, the title role in Donizetti’s Roberto Devereux, and the tenor soloist in Verdi’s Requiem. Costello’s history with Verdi’s repertoire includes a variety of signature roles, including the title role in Don Carlo, which earned him praise for “personifying the prince’s frustrated ardor with a bright and well-projected lyric tenor” (InterClassical).
Costello is joined by a fantastic cast, under the baton of Gianandrea Noseda, including Dalibor Jenis as Renato, Elena Stikhina as Amelia, Yulia Matochkina as Ulrica, and Rebeca Olvera as Oscar.
Un ballo in Maschera runs August 26-30th at the Edinburgh International Festival.
